Question
We are visiting a tourist attraction in Japan and I want to buy tickets for my family at the information counter. How do I say “tickets for 2 adults and 3 children please” in Japanese?
Answer by Professional Japanese Teacher
(1) 大人(おとな)2枚(まい)と子(こ)ども3枚(まい)お願(ねが)いします。
Otona nimai to kodomo sanmai onegaishimasu.
2 adult tickets and 3 children tickets please
Otona means “adult” and kodomo means “child or children”. Mai is a counter used for tickets or thin and flat things. You do not have to say the Japanese equivalent for “ticket”. When you say nimai, it means “2 tickets”. You can change the number accordingly.
