Question
I’m planning to visit Japan and I’ve heard a lot about Japanese convenience stores (konbini). They seem to have everything! How do I ask, “Do you sell umbrellas here?” in Japanese at a konbini?

Koko de kasa o utteimasuka?
Do you sell umbrellas here?

Convenience stores or “konbini” in Japan are indeed very convenient and offer a wide range of products. The phrase “Koko de” means “here”, “kasa” means “umbrella”, and “utteimasuka” means “are selling?” or “do you sell?” You can use this sentence structure to ask if any item is sold at a specific location by replacing “kasa” with the desired item.

Remember, “koko de [item] o utteimasuka?” is a useful phrase when shopping or exploring various stores in Japan!
