Question
I am visiting Japan for the first time and will be travelling to Kyoto. I understand that Kyoto has many beautiful temples and shrines. I am particularly interested in visiting Kinkakuji (Golden Pavilion). How do I ask for directions to Kinkakuji in Japanese?

Kinkakuji ni iku ni wa dou ikeba ii desuka?
How can I get to Kinkakuji?
When you want to ask for directions in Japan, you can use the phrase “place ni iku ni wa dou ikeba ii desuka?”, which means “How can I get to place?” Just replace Kinkakuji with other places you’re interested in.
Besides asking for directions, you can also use this phrase to ask about means of transportation. For example, you can say “Osaka kara Tokyo ni iku ni wa dou ikeba ii desuka?” to ask about the best way to travel from Osaka to Tokyo.
