Question
I’m traveling to Japan for the first time and I’m worried about getting lost. If I find myself lost in the city, how can I ask for help to find the nearest train station in Japanese?

最寄り(もより)の駅(えき)を教(おし)えてください。
Moyori no eki o oshiete kudasai.
Please tell me where the nearest train station is.

This is a very useful phrase to ask for directions in Japan. Moyori no means “nearest”; eki means “train station”; and oshiete kudasai means “please tell me”.

If you’re looking for other places, simply replace “eki” with the place you’re searching for, like “コンビニ” (konbini – convenience store) or “レストラン” (resutoran – restaurant). You can use this expression in urban areas, especially in places where there are many train stations. Safe travels!
