Question
I’m in Japan for a short work trip, and I don’t speak much Japanese. I need to take a taxi from my hotel to my meeting location but I’m not sure how to communicate the address to the driver. How do I ask “Can you take me to this address, please?” in Japanese?

Kono juusho ni itte moraemasu ka?
Can you take me to this address, please?

This phrase is extremely useful when you’re navigating a city and need assistance in getting to a specific location. “Kono” means “this,” and “juusho” means “address.” By saying “kono juusho ni itte,” you are asking to go to “this address.” The phrase “moraemasu ka” softens the request and makes it polite. Simply show the driver the address written in Japanese while saying this phrase.

When using a taxi in Japan, it’s always handy to have the address written down in Japanese—this makes communication much easier and ensures everyone is on the same page.
