Question
We have just checked in to a B&B located at a relatively rural part of Japan. We were very hungry, but we did not reserve dinner at the B&B in advance. We wanted to ask if there’s any restaurants nearby that we could go to. How do I ask “Can you recommend any restaurants nearby?” in Japanese?

近(ちか)くにおすすめのレストランは ありますか。
Chikakuni osusume no resutoran wa arimasuka?
Is there a recommended restaurant nearby?

You can use the above phrase to ask for a recommendation if you’re not sure where to go to for a meal. Chikaku means “nearby” and osusume means “recommendation”. You can ask about various locations with the question, “Chikaku ni ~ wa arimasu ka?” (Is there a ~ nearby?)
